Day 01: Friday 03 January 2003
Pretoria - Nelspruit 
Depart from the Symposium venue (Conference Centre), Pretoria University, at 14:00.

Overnight stay at Kwanyoni Lodge (Phone: 013 733 3096) on the outskirts of Nelspruit in the Crocodile River Valley.



Day 02: Saturday 04 January 2003
Nelspruit - Magoebaskloof/Tzaneen
After breakfast visit the Lowveld National Botanical Garden to view various members of the Apiales. 

Scenic drive along the escarpment stopping at various places of interest on the way.

Overnight stay at Magoebaskloof Ruskamp (Phone: 015 305 4142) on the slopes of the Wolkberg Mountains.



Day 03: Sunday 05 January 2003
Magoebaskloof/Tzaneen - Pretoria 
After breakfast drive back to Pretoria via the Waterberg. Arrive late afternoon.

TOTAL TOUR PRICE PAYABLE: R1230-00. (Exchange rate at present is about R10-70 to 1 US dollar). A 50% non-refundable deposit is required by 30 September and the balance by 30 November 2002. Payable to the organisers into the following Rand Afrikaans University account: ABSA 2840000136; Reference: 4415 Apiales. Please send a fax of your deposit slip to Ben-Erik and Pat. at the following number: +27 -11-489 2411. We will acknowledge receipt of this so please notify us if you fail to receive this.

The following (per person) are included in the tour price: 

Accommodation at Kwanyoni Lodge (R180-00 including breakfast) & Magoebaskloof Ruskamp (R400-00 including breakfast), and transport (approximately R650-00).

FOR OWN POCKET: all meals excluding breakfast. 

Entrance fees to Lowveld Botanic Gardens (currently R7-00) and other places of interest. 

The organisers undertake to act as hosts and guides (free of charge) but cannot accept responsibility for any injury or loss during the excursions. Each participant should arrange for his/her own medical and travel insurance. Some areas are malaria areas but the risk is extremely low so you may want to discuss this with your doctor. Ben-Erik and Pat will only be using a mosquito repellant e.g. Tabard.

Day 01: 12 January 2003 - Sunday
Johannesburg/ Cape Town SAA327 11:00 - 13:10
Your exciting journey begins at Johannesburg International Airport. Please meet fellow participants at the SAA domestic check-in counter at 10:00. On arrival at Cape Town board microbuses and drive to the Holiday Inn Garden Court, Newlands (Phone: 021 683-6562). After a brief stop, leave on a scenic drive to Betty’s Bay on the Cape south coast. Return in the evening.

Likely Apiales: Dasispermum suffruticosum, Peucedanum and Centella species.



Day 02: 13 January 2003 - Monday
Cape Town
Visit to the Cape Point Nature Reserve, a wild and scenically spectacular area at the tip of the Cape Peninsula, where the two oceans meet. 

Experience the bustling Victoria & Albert Waterfront with many unique arts and crafts stalls under one roof, visit the Aquarium or take a boat cruise e.g. to Robben Island/Take the cable car up Table Mountain (Apiales: Peucedanum galbanum) overlooking Cape Town and Table Bay (in good weather only).



Day 03: 14 January 2003 - Tuesday
Cape Town
Enjoy the beauty of Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden (Apiales: Anginon difforme, Hermas villosa). The estate covers 528 hectares and supports diverse fynbos flora and natural forest. The cultivated garden (36 hectares) displays collections of South African plants, particularly from the winter rainfall region of the country.

Experience the bustling Victoria & Albert Waterfront with many unique arts and crafts stalls under one roof, visit the Aquarium or take a boat cruise e.g. to Robben Island/Take the cable car up Table Mountain (Apiales: Peucedanum galbanum) overlooking Cape Town and Table Bay (in good weather only).



Day 04: 15 January 2003 - Wednesday
Field trip to Cedarberg/Clanwilliam/Citrusdal
Drive to the Cedarberg one of several Western Cape mountains earmarked for World Heritage status. Overnight stay (2-4 sharing; please bring your own towels) at The Baths Natural Hot Springs Resort, in the Olifants River Valley, near the town of Citrusdal (Phone: country code +27 22 921 3609).

Day 05: 16 January 2003 - Thursday
Citrusdal/Cape Town
Scenic drive via Tulbagh, an historic Cape Dutch town, and the Du Toit’s Kloof Pass back to Cape Town.

15:00: Wine tasting at Nederburg Wine Estate.

Overnight: Holiday Inn Garden court, Newlands.



Day 06: 17 January 2003 - Friday
Cape Town/ Johannesburg SAA324 10:10-12:10
Morning flight back to Johannesburg.
