DescriptionRhizome short, with closely spaced stipes; scales membranous, brown, triangular, up to 5 by 1.5 mm, hairy. Frond subdimorphic with fertile ones taller. Stipes of fertile frond up to 47 cm long, of sterile ones 5–23 cm long, hairy throughout, scaly near base, rather fleshy in living condition. Laminae ovate, up to 30 by 12 cm in fertile and 12–35 by 8–20 cm in sterile fronds; lateral pinnae 2–5 pairs, sessile, narrowly oblong, caudate-acuminate at apex, broadly cuneate to subtruncate at base, sometimes auricled acroscopically, up to 2.6–7 by 1.2–2.8 cm in fertile 4.1–10 by 1.5–2.5(–5.2) cm in sterile ones, chartaceous, fleshy in living condition, verrucose below, subentire; terminal narrowly triangular to ovate and often twice as long as lateral pinnae; venation meniscioid, obscure. Sori round, usually confluent and appearing crescent-shaped at maturity; indusia brown, persistent, hairy; sporangia setose . Distribution in ThailandSOUTH-WESTERN: Prachuap Khiri Khan; PENINSULAR: Surat Thani, Trang, Satun, Yala. Wider DistributionPeninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Philippines and New Guinea. EcologyOn earthy banks or on rocks by streams in evergreen forests at low altitudes. Proposed IUCN Conservation AssessmentLeast Concern (LC). This species is widespread and not under any known threat. NotesThe dimensions in the description are based on Thai material. Holttum in Flora Malesiana notes that non-Peninsular Malaysian Malesian plants may be larger.
