Description

Rhizome short creeping, bearing close fronds, densely scaly; scales oblong-lanceolate, about 10–15 mm long, concolorous, brown, entire. Stipes up to 20 cm long; lamina up to 25 by 20 cm, quadripinnatifid at basal pinnae; rachis deeply grooved, the grooves open at junction of costa; pinnae subtriangular, the upper ones gradually becoming smaller; ultimate segments oblique, acute to moderately acute at apex; hairs of two kinds, setose-hairs about 0.3 mm long, glandular hairs sparse; veins pinnate, reaching the margin of lobes, all free. Sori dorsal on veinlets, rather close to costules; indusia round-reniform or horse-shoe-shaped.

Distribution in Thailand

NORTH-EASTERN: Loei; SOUTH-WESTERN: Prachuap Khiri Khan; PENINSULAR: Ranong.

Wider Distribution

Japan and China (Shantung, Anhwei and Honan).

Ecology

On rocks in shade in deciduous or mixed forests at about 400 m alt.

Proposed IUCN Conservation Assessment

Least Concern (LC). This species is widespread and not under any known threat.

Notes

Geographically it is interesting to find this species in Thailand, for it is a warm temperate species in Central China and Japan. Phu Kradueng plants are peculiar in having few glandular hairs, though the Thai plants are just the same at Japanese and Chinese plants except for this feature.
