Description

Rhizome short creeping, bearing closely spaced fronds, densely scaly, scales subtriangular, attenuate at apex, about 3 by 1.7 mm, thin, more or less clathrate, hairy at margin with dark brown, short setose hairs. Stipes short, to 3.8 cm long, dark brown, rather densely setose hairy. Laminae linear-lanceolate ot oblanceolate, gradually narrowing towards both ends, 11–30(–66) by 2–2.5(–6.7) cm, deeply lobed nearly to midrib with a wing less 0.1–0.7 mm in breadth on each side; middle largest lobes slightly ascending, narrowly subtriangular, straight or slightly falcate, entire, 9–1.5(–3.7) cm by 2–5 mm; thinly leathery, veins simple, sparsely hairy at margin. Sori in cup-shaped cavities at margin of apical portion of lobes, opening towards margin , about 1 mm diam.

Distribution in Thailand

PENINSULAR: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Yala.

Wider Distribution

S India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, S China, Taiwan, throughout Malesia, NE Australia, Pacific Islands.

Ecology

On mossy tree trunks in dense evergreen forests at high altitudes, rather rare. Sometimes lithophytic .

Proposed IUCN Conservation Assessment

Least Concern (LC). This species is widespread and not under any known threat.

Notes

Except in the difference in soral character , this and Prosaptia obliquata (Blume) Mett. are quite similar. Prosaptia contigua is abundant on Khao Luang growing in mixed populations with Prosaptia obliquata .
