Nomenclature

Tectaria shahidaniana Rusea, Folia Malaysiana 5: 28. 2004.

Description

From protologue :
Rhizome erect. Scales at base of stipe 3 mm long, shining brown with paler margin. Fronds dimorphic, lamina simple, glabrous on both surfaces except few short hairs on midrib or main veins beneath. Sterile fronds: stipes to 20 cm long, with short white hairs; lamina 25–40 x 5–7 cm, margin entire, venation reticulate forming many areoles and areolules with free included veins. Fertile fronds: stipes to 30 cm long, with short white hairs; lamina 25–30 x 1.5–3 cm, margin undulate, veins forming two rows of areoles with free included veinlets; sori large, one to each areole, terminal on included veinlets, indusia peltate, persistent .

Distribution in Thailand

PENINSULAR: Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Wider Distribution

Peninsular Malaysia.

Ecology

Dry evergreen forest on granite bedrock at about 300 m alt.

Proposed IUCN Conservation Assessment

Least Concern (LC). Although this species is restricted in its distribution in Malaysia and Thailand it is reasonably common in the protected area of Khao Luang National Park and not under any known threat.
