Umbelliferae for the Flora of Bhutan
Introduction
Flora
of Bhutan Project covers most of the E Himalayan region (Bhutan, Chumbi
Valley, Sikkim and Darjeeling). and includes a very diverse flora: the
Umbelliferae are represented by some 90 species in 38 genera. The Umbelliferae
account is primarily based on herbarium material housed at the Royal
Botanic Garden Edinburgh (E), Natural
Hisory Museum London (BM), and the Royal
Botanic Gardens Kew (K), although some living material was available
at Edinburgh. One of the aims of the Flora is to make available this historic
information in a form that can be used by the local scientists. All taxa
are keyed out, concise diagnostic descriptions are provided, and major
groups are illustrated with line drawings. Research for the Umbelliferae
was greatly helped by the meticulous field observations of John Wood, and
the wide experience of Jennifer
Lamond.
All the records used in the preparation of the account have been entered into the World Umbellifer Database. We are in the process of making this available as an online Flora account generating distribution maps when required. A subset of this data has been published as the Internet searchable Gazetteer of East Himalayan Plant Collecting Localities.
