Photographs of Diploneis valves (by deme): outline focus
Use this page to access photographs of the valves measured for Droop et al. (2000). The pictures are arranged firstly by deme number, then by provenance, then by decreasing length. The diatoms are numbered 1–684; these numbers correspond to those in Column 1 of the data sheet.
Two photographs are given of each diatom: a stria focus (used for measuring stria density) and an outline focus (used for measuring dimensions and rectangularity). All photographs are to the same scale, and a 10µm scale bar is given on each. They were taken with a x40 oil objective (NA=1.00) – rather than the higher numeric aperture x100 – so that all valves could be photographed at the same scale, even the biggest ones.

- then decide which deme you want to look at:
